Giuliana Rancic admits she is too thin
E! News anchor Giuliana Rancic’s slim appearance at the Golden Globes ignited a firestorm of rumors: Does she have an eating disorder? Is her cancer back? Now, in an interview with People magazine, Rancic is speaking out about her physique.
Rancic, 40, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011 and underwent a double mastectomy that year. According to People, Rancic is healthy, but the cancer-suppressing medicine she’s been taking since 2012 has had an effect on her body. Her doctor said the drug, which can alter metabolism, can also cause weight loss.
“I’m sorry that some people think I’m disgustingly skinny, as they put it, but there’s nothing I can do,” Rancic told People. “I’m lucky that I even have the type of cancer that reacts to the medicine.”
Despite eating a healthy diet, Rancic admits that the physical change has been difficult to bear.
“I look in the mirror and it’s hard for me,” she said. “I am really thin. I want to look fit and beautiful and sexy, and I can’t.”
Rancic told People that a major publication interested in featuring her backed out, telling her that she was “too skinny.”
“That was really hurtful,” she says. “I thought, ‘Wow, I’m on cancer medication. I’m doing the best that I can.’ ”
While she refuses to be broken by what people say, she hopes her new memoir “Going Off Script,” which comes out this weekend, sets the record straight.
Giuliana is married to Chicago native Bill Rancic and they have a young son together named Duke. The couple also owns two Chicago restaurants: RPM Italian and RPM Steak.
