CHICAGO -- A new Chicago Tribune poll shows that Mayor Emanuel is getting a big lead ahead of next week's runoff election.
Over 700 registered voters were surveyed from March 25 to Sunday. Emanuel now has a 58 percent lead over Jesus Garcia, who has 30 percent. Nine percent said they were undecided.
The mayor's numbers appear to be going up because of growing support from white voters. Seventy-two percent of white voters in the survey went with Emanuel. Twenty-five percent went with Garcia.
When asked which candidate is best equipped to manage Chicago's finances, Emanuel leads Garcia, 59 percent to 18 percent.
Emanuel and Garcia have their final debate tonight. The election is next Tuesday.
