CHICAGO --A fire escalated to a hazardous materials situation on the Southwest Side.
It started at about 9 p.m. Thursday on the 3800 block of West 38th Street.
Flames ripped through a building that's home to several businesses - including one that produces chemicals used in fire extinguishers.
A portion of the building near I-55, the Stevenson Expressway, collapsed under the intense heat and flames.
Firefighter’s efforts were hampered by a poor water supply.
Crews performed an inline operation, using six trucks to transfer water from one to another until it reached the fire.
Crews had the fire under control just before midnight, but they are still on the scene.
No one was hurt, and it's still not clear how the fire started.
