CHICAGO — A man from Hobart, Ind., was arrested after a loaded handgun was found in his carry-on bag at Midway Airport.

The incident, the sixth this year, equals the number of weapons found at Midway for 2014, officials said.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the gun was spotted Monday morning in a carry-on as it was going through a security checkpoint. A Transportation Security Administration agent spotted the weapon in the bag and alerted Chicago police who made the arrest.

Sieon Roberts, 35, was charged with one misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed firearm at the airport.

Officials say the firearm was a 9mm Taurus Millenium G4 with 10 bullets, and one of the bullets was in the gun’s chamber.

Roberts had a concealed carry permit for the weapon that was issued in Indiana, officials said. The man was released on a personal recognizance I bond and has an April 24 court hearing in Chicago.

TSA imposes civil penalties ranging from $1,500 up to $11,000 for a single violation of a firearm brought to a security checkpoint. TSA continues to intercept firearms and other dangerous weapons at security checkpoints nationwide.

TSA discovered more than 1,800 firearms at checkpoints across the nation in 2013 and more than 2,200 firearms in 2014.
