It certainly doesn’t feel nice out here tonight, but despite the briskness, people are lining-up to eat at the popular taco joint, “Big Star.” Many telling me after this winter, we deserve some nice weather…And perhaps many are clinging to this first hint of spring. Not exactly a nice night out… But it is better than what we’ve had lately.
Just Friday, a high in the 20s. “Yesterday was hell. Can I say that?” But what a difference a day makes. Highs in the mid-40s had many opting to spending the day and night outside. Navy Pier, a popular choice.
Kasey Radtke excited about being able to shed some of those winter clothes. “Finally I didn’t have to wear 19 layers of gloves so it was awesome!”
And in anticipation of this nice day, “Original Rainbow Cone” in Beverly, celebrated its grand opening for the season.
And Big Star, in Wicker Park opened up its patio. “Actually not bad. The heat lamps are working. The drinks might be working as well.”
Yep, wearing their coats and scarves many patrons opted to dine outdoors on Mexican cuisine. Those here tell me tonight felt better than anything we’ve experienced this winter. “I definitely took off the shell of my winter coat and I feel free now. Hopefully the weather stays because I can’t handle any more cold.”
“That’s crazy. They’re eating outside. It’s really nice weather...but Chicagoans are unbelievable. 41 degrees, we’re out running in shorts and eating outside. I can’t believe it!
Of course many people already making outdoor plans for tomorrow, when we’re expected to have another day in the mid-40s. Live from Wicker Park, Courtney Gousman, WGN News.
