Man, 33, fatally shot in Aurora
AURORA, Ill. — Police are investigating a shooting in suburban Aurora, Ill., that left a 33-year-old man from Montgomery, Ill., dead Saturday morning.
According to a statement released by the Aurora Police Department, investigators are looking into the shooting, and subsequent car crash, that left victim Bryce M. Stiff, 33, dead.
Police said they received a call for shots shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday, when they later got word of a traffic collision in which a Jeep had crashed into a telephone pole.
According to police, Stiff had been driving another Montgomery man, 21, when shots rang out. One of the shots struck Stiff in the shoulder. He attempted to drive to the hospital when he crashed into the Jeep, forcing it into the pole. Stiff’s car went over a berm and into a parking lot.
Stiff was later taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said he appeared to die from the gunshot wound, and not from injuries suffered in the crash. The 21-year-old in his car was not injured.
The woman in the Jeep suffered non-life threatening injuries.
