WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. -- A bus driver could be sentenced to three months in jail after prosecutors say a video shows he fell asleep while driving a city bus in West Bloomfield, Michigan.
Investigators say 65-year old Leon Rasheed dozed off behind the wheel last October and when he woke up he stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake.
The bus plowed into a string of cars which were stopped on the road.
An elderly couple in one car was seriously injured.
There was only one passenger on the bus and she was not hurt.
Rasheed was arraigned on a misdemeanor charge Wednesday and will be back in court next week.
He retired from The Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation in December.
