YALLINGUP, Australia — We think it only lurks in the water, but beware of the “land octopus.”
A poor crab in western Australia learned that the hard way.
The crab was minding its own business on some rocks outside a tide pool when it was ambushed by an octopus … on land.
A woman captured the whole thing on film. According to the video’s description, the footage was shot in Yallingup, Australia.
The video was posted to YouTube last week and already has more than 2 million views.
The land attack is not common, but octopus scientists say it can happen.
And keep in mind there are plenty of octopuses in the Pacific Ocean, including California. Some can grow up to 16 feet in length — and weigh more than 100 pounds.
So watch out.
