EVANSTON, Ill -- A man is suing Northwestern University alleging a professor helped frame him for a double murder.

Alstory Simon seeks $40 million from Northwestern, the now retired professor and others.

Simon spent 15 years behind bars until his conviction was set aside last year.

He accuses Professor Dave Protess of railroading him to free death row inmate Anthony Porter.

Porter’s release made headlines and led to the end of the death penalty in Illinois.

Simon claims Protess' students and a private-eye tricked him into falsely confessing to the killings.

Northwestern denies wrongdoing.
