SKOKIE, Ill -- A Dallas woman has filed a lawsuit and says she was drugged and raped at a Chicago-area hotel by a hotel security guard.
Karla Gress, 49, says she was staying at the Holiday Inn in Skokie on a business trip in October 2013. While having dinner at the Bar Louie in the hotel, she believes someone drugged her drink. Later that night, she claims a hotel security guard entered her room and raped her. The details are foggy, Karla says, but she reported it right away. A rape kit provided a DNA match with the man she's accusing.
The man was interviewed by police and released without a charge.
After 15-months of waiting, Karla filed a civil suit today naming the hotel, its owner, director of operations and the security guard.
Because the case is still open, there's very little Skokie police can say about it. They say they have turned over all evidence collected to the state’s attorney’s office.
The Cook County State's Attorney's office confirms this remains an open investigation.
So far, no one named in the lawsuit has been available to comment.
