Did you ever think that what you eat can actually affect your mood? Here’s a few ideas from nutritionist Ashley Pettit.
Ashley says: “It has so much B12 in it, and Iodine, and those are energy-boosting foods.”
Ashley says: “So I do Swiss chard instead of tortillas. All you have to do is just wrap it up and cut the stem off. And so the magnesium in this is actually the thing that’s going to get you that mood boosting. It alarms biochemical reactions in your brain to release energy.”

Ashley says: “I say eat the colors of the rainbow, and purple, which is very rare, actually has anthocyanin which boosts that energy in your brain as well. ”
Ashley says, “It has 24 vitamins and minerals, 15 amino acids, and it doesn’t give you the jitters. and it actually fights inflammation. Inflammation totally brings your mood down, all over your body it brings your mood down because your body’s working so hard to fight the inflammation.”
We’re talking about chocolate in a portion so one to two ounces of dark chocolate. An organic chocolate is nothing to feel guilty about. Chocolate gives us serotonin and that makes us happy.”
Ashley says” “I know people are going to be like I don’t want to touch sardines, but 74% of Americans are lacking in B12. One ounce of sardines has 105% of B12 that you need in a day. I swear by sardines.”
But how do you mask that sardine taste? Try Ashley’s Vegan Smoked Sardine Caesar Dressing:
Combine all ingredients in a food processor.
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 smoked sardines
- 1/2 cup vegan mayonnaise or plain Greek yogurt
- 1 1/2 cups nutritional yeast
- 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 5 tablespoons cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil
- Fine sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
