YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Shannise Heady was a basketball star at Hillcrest High school in Country Club Hills. She went on to Seton Hall and then Eastern Michigan University, where she was a starting guard.
The 21-year-old Heady and her passenger, 23-year-old Jordan Hopkins, another Eastern Michigan student, were both killed when, authorities say, Heady's car crossed the center line and hit an oncoming vehicle.
The crash is still under investigation. It happened early Sunday morning near the school's campus in Ypsilanti Township, Michigan.
Her former coach at Hillcrest, who also coached both of her parents, says Heady had boundless energy and a tremendous work ethic.
He says she was pursuing a degree in healthcare administration -- because she wanted to help people.
Heady's family just stunned by her death. Officials at Eastern Michigan in a statement said Shannise brought an energy and liveliness to the women's basketball team. She lit up the room with her personality and smile, and will be greatly missed.
