CHICAGO -- The worst of the bitter cold air is hitting this morning, so Chicago Public Schools, and dozens of other districts, cancelled classes for a second day.
CPS announced Wednesday that it will not hold classes again today due to the extremely cold temperatures.
“Our top priority remains the safety of our students, and tomorrow’s weather conditions could again be dangerous to students traveling to and from school,” said CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett in a statement Thursday. “It is in the best interest of our students to cancel classes tomorrow, and we look forward to welcoming back all of our students once weather conditions improve.”
For parents who cannot stay home with their kids, some YMCA's are offering special programs to keep them busy.
Also, the Chicago Park District facilities will be open during normal hours today - some even offering cold day camp activities.
