The Washington Wizards may have defeated the Boston Celtics, 133-132 in double overtime, Monday, but it was what the winning team’s star did afterward that proved life is larger than sports.

Wizards guard John Wall led his team to victory during a hard-fought game, scoring 26 points and racking up 17 assists.

After the game ended, a regional Comcast SportsNet reporter spoke to Wall, who tried to pay tribute to his friend, 6-year-old Miyah Telemaque-Nelson, who died of cancer and with whom Wall had developed a close relationship.

“It’s just tough man,” Wall said during the interview, “to see a little kid that fights so hard from cancer and can’t beat it.”

As the reporter continued the interview, the NBA star eventually broke down in tears, and was left speechless.
