Francisco Espinal-Quiroz appeared in court in Will County Tuesday to face additional charges in a deadly chain reaction accident that happened on July 21.
The 51-year old truck driver from Leesburg, Indiana had already been indicted on charges of falsifying his driver log and failing to slow down in a construction zone.
A new indictment now adds reckless homicide charges.
Five people died as a result of the accident on I-55, including Timothy Osburn, Kimberly Britton, Piper Britton, Vicky Palacios and Ulrike Bopleh.
Espinal-Quiroz pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He remains in the Will County jail on a $1 million bond.
If he is found guilty, Espinal-Quiroz could be sentenced to 28 years in prison.
