Police officers gathered Tuesday morning in the south suburbs to provide an escort for a Merrillville officer who was killed in the line of duty.
Nickolaus Schultz died at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after being shot in the head on Saturday.
Schultz was responding to a call at a condo complex when people complained an evicted resident was trying to get back in.
The suspect was wearing body armor and exchanged shots with officers before he killed himself.
The procession went from Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Schultz was 24-year-old.
He is the first Merrillville officer to die in the line of duty since the department was founded in 1971.
