Rescue teams recovered the body of 54-year-old suburban man in Northwest Indiana just before 1 p.m. today.

Amer Rustum of Willowbrook was with two friends on a boat yesterday in Lake Michigan near the Indiana Dunes State Park. Witnesses told rescue workers Rustum couldn't swim. He fell into the water while climbing on the side of the boat. Rustum’s friends attempted to throw him a flotation device but it was too late.

The incident took place near the main pavilion at the Indiana Dunes State Park. The group was just about 20 yards off shore but rescue workers needed sonar equipment to recover the victim's body. Rustum was found in about 11 feet of water.

The investigation continues but it appears as if it was an accident

This is sad to hear. Dr Rustum was a great man, loved by everyone. Especially his students and patients. I was one of his many medical students. He will be missed greatly! May God rest his soul.

Doctor Rustom was the most polite person I have known, a gentle soul who lived his life to the fullest.
He tragically lost his sister, also a doctor, nearly 16 years ago.
He liked to dance to the Syrian music and jog early in the morning.
Amer and his family are in our prayers. They are all wonderful people.
