U.S. military plane lands in Iran amidst flight plan confusion
A military chartered airplane carrying about 100 Americans has landed in Dubai following an unexpected landing in Iran Friday.
The flight was headed to Dubai from Afghanistan.
Iranian officials questioned the flight plan of the aircraft and ordered that it land on Friday.
The pilots cooperated.
U.S. State Department officials said the incident was a “bureaucratic issue.”
Officials say the plane was flying an established flight plan, but that it was on that course several hours later than it should have been, thus the confusion.
The operator of the aircraft, Fly Dubai, regularly flies over Iranian airspace.
