Mystery virus sweeps through downstate Illinois, Missouri
A mystery illness is making dozens of children sick in downstate Illinois and nearby Missouri.
About 70 kids ended up at the hospital in Quincy, Illinois over the holiday weekend with a respiratory virus that causes symptoms similar to the common cold but more severe.
Doctors have not yet confirmed exactly which virus it is, but they’re urging parents to watch out for high fever, trouble breathing, and a rattling cough.
The Quincy hospital is now restricting visits by children under age 12.
Doctors are concerned that kids who may be carrying the virus could pass it on to vulnerable patients in the hospital.
