An Louisiana  boy who was born without a brain died Monday at the age of 12.
Trevor Judge Waltrip was born in 2001 with just a brain stem and hydranencephaly – a rare condition in which the brain’s cerebral hemispheres are absent, replaced by sacs filled with cerebro-spinal fluid, KSLA reports.
The brain stem allowed Trevor to breathe and maintain a heartbeat but he was also blind and unable to verbally communicate.
There’s no cure or treatment for hydranencephaly.
Initially doctors didn’t know if Trevor would live 12 weeks.  Instead, Trevor lived 12 years and KSLA reports he died peacefully in his sleep.
