* St. Louis is 24-9 in home games against the Cubs since 2011, the second-best record by any NL team against a division opponent over that span (Milwaukee, 26-8 vs. Cubs).
* Since scoring a season-high 17 runs on May 12 in their last trip to St. Louis, the Cubs have scored eight runs or fewer in 85 straight games against NL teams, the franchise’s longest streak since 1916-17 (97 straight). After a 15-13 June, Chicago is 14-12 in August. The Cubs have not had more than one month with a winning record since 2009, the last time Chicago finished above .500 for the season.
* The Cardinals have lost five straight road series since winning two of three against the Cubs, but they have won four straight home series and 10 of their last 12 home games. St. Louis has double-digit hits in each of its last four home games, the team’s longest streak since June 3-6, 2013 (four).
* Kyle Hendricks has a 1.21 ERA (6 ER/44.2 IP) since the All-Star break, the lowest ERA in baseball (minimum 40 IP). The only loss of his brief career came against St. Louis, a 1-0 defeat on July 27.
* Shelby Miller has gone winless in his last eight home starts, the longest streak by a Cardinal since Brett Tomko in 2003 (10 straight). Miller is 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA (2 ER/11.1 IP) in three career games (two starts) against the Cubs.
* Jorge Soler has two hits in each of his first two MLB games, the first Cub to do so since Shawn Boskie in 1990. Soler also has three strikeouts through two games, while teammate and fellow rookie Javier Baez has 43 strikeouts in his first 23 games, the most by any player in the last 100 years. The Cubs are averaging one strikeout every 4.23 plate appearances, the highest rate in franchise history.
