Family sues nanny service in connection with child’s death
The parents of a 3-month-old baby girl who died have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the company that helped them find the babysitter charged in the child’s murder.
Nathan and Reggan Koopmeiners of Kenosha are suing the sitter, Sarah Gumm and Care.com, a nanny screening service.
They say Care.com failed to perform an adequate background check.
The Koopmeiners claim it would have revealed Gumm had a prior criminal record.
Gumm was charged with first-degree murder in the 2012 death of Rylan Koopmeiners.
An autopsy showed the baby suffered a fractured skull.
Gumm’s criminal trial is scheduled to begin next month.
