Evanston city officials say there’s been an surge in complaints about rats around the north suburb this year.
The biggest increase has been in an area south of Main Street and east of Dodge.
The city has hired an exterminator and health inspectors are trying to educate residents on how to control the population.
They advise people to close the lids of their garbage cans where rats look for food.
They also say clean up overgrown vegetation where rats live to live.
