Police say they rescued four hostages -- two children and two women -- and arrested two suspects Wednesday morning, ending a two-day hostage situation in surburban Harvey
No one was injured in the rescue, in which police entered the house in Harvey, Illinois, and arrested the suspects, police said. The rescued hostages are "traumatized" but unharmed, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said.
Four other hostages -- children ranging in age from 1 to 12 -- were released late Tuesday, police said.
It all started Wednesday as a home burglary, and deteriorated into a barricade situation when police showed up at the home on West 147th Street.
During the hostage situation, one police officer suffered a graze wound to his arm in an exchange of gunfire with the hostage takers. He was treated at the scene.
Another officer was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for a wounded elbow. Mayor Eric Kellogg identifies him as officer Darnell Keel, a 15-year veteran. He's already gone home from the hospital.
