Critics say our modern gadgets isolate us from each other, but they can also move and inspire more of us than ever before.
Case in point: 20-year-old Gage Boucher was working at a supermarket near Daytona, Florida, last Saturday night when he noticed an elderly shopper struggling with an untied shoelace.
So Gage approached the man and tied the shoe, and the other one for good measure. The random act of kindness was captured on the cell phone camera of another shopper, who posted the picture on Facebook.
It went viral and now nearly 200,000 people have “liked” Gage’s simple gesture. He says he didn’t really give it another thought till he returned to work and heard the story had blown up on social media.
The man who snapped the photo, Keith Kiel, says it’s been a long time since he witnessed such an act, other than holding a door for someone.
The elderly man pulled out his wallet and tried to give Gage something for his trouble. But the young man wouldn’t accept anything for a simple act of humanity towards another.
