In a highly unusual move dozens of FBI agents are headed to Chicago’s highest crime areas.
WGN News has learned the 40 state troopers assigned to the Chicago police dept’s fugitive task force arrived at 11th District today and will start work tomorrow.
Now the Sun Times is reporting 65 FBI agents will be working hand in hand with Chicago police as well. They'll be assigned to the south and west sides for at least the next three to four weeks.
A police source for the paper says the plan is to develop intelligence and conduct surveillance on street corner drug dealers. They'll be working the streets trying to make a dent in the city's gang problem.
The FBI agents are expected to be here three to four weeks as well. It's not known when themy start.
