Couple obsessed with World of Warcraft sentenced to prison for child neglect
A California couple reportedly obsessed with a video game, was sentenced to prison and charged with child abuse, after their two daughter were found neglected in their home.
KTLA reports the girls, ages 10 and 5, were found in the family’s filthy mobile home without adequate food or basic care. They were not allowed out of the home, even to attend school.
Lester Louis Huffmire and his wife Petra Huffmire, both 41, pleaded guilty on Aug. 5 to two felony counts of child abuse, two misdemeanor counts of false imprisonment, one misdemeanor count of contributing to delinquency of a minor, and sentencing enhancements for great bodily injury, according to a news release from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors say the adults were unemployed and played World of Warcraft all day.
According to a release, authorities found kitchen appliances “covered in mold and cobwebs, stacks of trash, debris, mold, and feces throughout the home, a pile of used condoms under a stuffed teddy bear, and inoperable toilets.”
A neighbor contacted authorities for a well being check.
