Some of the instructors who teach "conceal carry" classes are police officers with controversial histories.
That's according to a new Chicago Tribune investigation.
The instructors backgrounds include substantiated excessive force allegations, physical abuse, and a controversial shooting of a motorist.
A state program is set up to ensure that those who carry concealed arms are well trained.
But the report quotes state police as saying more than 100 instructors have been banned for teaching faulty classes or being criminally charged or convicted, among other reasons.
