Crime on the CTA is down.

Thefts are down 18 percent, robberies fell 35 percent and violent crime dropped 34 percent compared to last year.

Officials say new surveillance cameras and an increase in undercover police patrols are making a difference.

The new information is being released following the high profile attack on an orange line train earlier this month.

Two armed men robbed at least four passengers and pistol-whipped another. They were caught with the helps of surveillance footage.

Thefts and robberies are the top two crimes reported on the CTA.
