Two teenagers were killed in a single-car crash in south suburban Harvey.
It happened at 2:10 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of East 147th Street. The car hit a pole.
"I saw a brown car, it's crashed ... it's totaled," said Melissa Coleman, who walked past the scene as investigators were reconstructing the accident. "It hit the pole. The pole is leaning. So, they had to hit the pole at a high amount of speed."
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office says a male and a female died at the scene. Their exact ages were not immediately known. Autopsies are scheduled for Sunday.
Two other people in the car were transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Their conditions are not known.
A spokesman for Harvey says the car came from Dolton, and was going at a very high rate of speed when it crashed.
Police say the car was not drag racing, as some witnesses initially reported. They won't say if alcohol was a factor, only that the investigation is ongoing.
