Man shot during attempted robbery near the Eisenhower Expressway

A man was shot during an attempted robbery on Chicago’s West Side and tried to drive himself to the hospital.

It happened at a gas station at 600 S. Independence  near the Eisenhower Expressway at about 8:30p.m. Saturday night.

Police say a man with a gun approached the victim and tried to rob him.  The victim tried to knock the gun away from the suspect and the gun discharged, hitting him in the stomach.

The suspect ran off and the victim got in his car and tried to drive himself to the hospital.

He pulled over on the shoulder of the Eisenhower near Sacramento and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

He’s listed in stable condition at Stroger Hospital.

No one is in custody.
