4-year-old boy dies in Bensenville house fire

A 4-year-old was killed and his mother hospitalized after a fire damaged a suburban home Wednesday afternoon.

Seven people, including four children, escaped when smoke filled a one story Bensenville home in the 1500 block of West Devon.

Neighbors say they saw smoke around 2 p.m. and tried to help as the single level brick home became filled with heavy smoke.

The mother inside at the time, kept going in and out to save her young kids, witnesses tell WGN News.

The four children ranged in age from 7 years to 9-months-old.

The 4-year-old, whose grandfather tells WGN was named Martin, is the only one who did not survive.

The mother inside who tried to save all of her children is now being treated for smoke inhalation .

Clean up continued into the night as emergency personnel try to put the pieces together. No cause for the fire has been officially declared.
