Crews searching for a teen who disappeared while swimming in a suburban lake found a body in the water Monday night.

Emergency crews were first called to Third Lake in the far northern suburb of Grayslake around 4 p.m. Monday.
Though the lake county coroner will make the official identification soon, friends tell WGN the victim is Matthew Reed, an incoming junior at Grayslake Central High School, who was active in sports.

Friends say Matt and a group of friends were out on a pontoon this afternoon, went for a swim when Matt began to struggle.

Just before 8 p.m., using sonar, divers found a body, 60 feet down into the water.

Third Lake is among the deepest in Lake County.

An official notification of the boy’s identity will be made likely tomorrow by the Lake County coroner.
