A man was killed in multi-vehicle crash that left a SUV turned over on eastbound Interstate 80 in Country Club Hills, authorities said.
The male driver of a Dodge car that was hit by a Toyota SUV near Crawford Avenue, causing a chain reaction crash, was killed in the collision, and the driver of the Toyota suffered non life-threatening injuries, according to Illinois State Police. The crash happened about 1:30 p.m.
Those riding in two other vehicles involved in the crash were not injured, but the drivers of those vehicles were taken to hospitals to be evaluated, according to police.
The SUV, which was traveling east on I-80, rear-ended the Dodge, causing a chain reaction that caused a Pontiac sedan and a Hyundai sedan to be hit, police said, citing preliminary information.
Photos from the scene showed an SUV that had overturned on its roof, with debris strewn on the roadway.
All eastbound lanes were closed east of Interstate 57 and were expected to remain closed until further notice, with traffic diverted onto I-57 northbound and southbound.
Delays on I-80 were extending back as far as LaGrange Road, with all lanes closed near the crash, according to police and traffic information services.
