A 22-year-old New York woman has been charged with second degree murder in the death of her 11-month-old son.
Detectives say Nicole ‘Nikky’ Kelly said she killed her baby boy because she had “reached her breaking point.”
The child, Kiam Felix, Jr., was pronounced dead at an area hospital Sunday afternoon after Kelly brought him into the emergency room with the boy’s father, who does not live with them.
Instead, Kelly lives with a roommate who has a 2-year-old boy. The roommate tells our sister station PIX11 News that she saw Kelly with the body of her lifeless baby, just before he was taken to the hospital.
At the time he was wearing a completely white outfit, identical to the wallpaper photos on Kelly’s Facebook page.
Below that photo banner, Kelly had posted, in part, after her son’s death: “Missing my baby boy so much wish there was some way I could bring him back to life I feel horrible knowing he passed away. Am [sic] his Mother. I was supposed to protect him.”
It’s likely then that the photo was taken after his death.
Authorities say that Kelly, formerly a home health aide, wrapped her baby so tightly in a bed sheet that he couldn’t breathe or move.
After Kelly was taken into custody, the Queens District Attorney’s Office says she told investigators: “I reached my breaking point. I didn’t want him anymore. “
PIX11 reports that Kelly is undergoing a mental evaluation at an area hospital.
If she is found guilty, she faces a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
