Some movie theaters are about to get more comfortable, but at a price.

AMC Entertainment announced that it will replace its seats with recliners in 1,800 of its 5,000 auditoriums. This plan will cost about $600 million, but AMC hopes the investment will attract more customers.

In theaters that have already gotten the new seats, attendance has gone up by 80 percent. The number of seats in the reseated theaters will be cut by up to two-thirds.

CEO Gerry Lopez said AMC’s theaters usually do not change ticket prices immediately after renovation, but prices will go up in later years at a higher rate than traditional theaters.

Lopez also mentioned that reseated theaters may also be updated with higher quality bathrooms and lobbies.
