Former Illinois US senator Alan Dixon died at his home in downstate Fairview Heights Sunday. He was 86.
Dixon served two terms in the US senate, from 1981 until 1993.
Dixon was known as “Al the Pal” because of his ability to get along with other politicians, regardless of party affiliation.
Dixon’s son says the former senator had been experiencing heart problems recently.
Dixon is survived by his wife, Jody, and three children.
