British model Josie Cunningham drinks and smokes 20 cigarettes a day despite being seven months pregnant, which she blames on the baby’s sex. She also says she would have gotten an abortion if she had known the baby was going to be a boy.
Cunningham, 23, already has two sons and had quit smoking after a psychic told her that her next child would be a girl. When she found out last month this was not true, she lit a cigarette and poured herself a glass of wine, and she has not stopped.
“I knew it could harm my child but it didn’t stop me,” she told the Mirror. “Deep down I know I wouldn’t be smoking or drinking if I knew I was having a girl.”
She compared the situation to already having two Fords and getting another Ford instead of an Audi.
Cunningham is no stranger to controversy. She first became infamous after receiving public funds for an elective breast surgery, Botox and dental care. She also uses public funds for cabs because she claims public transport gives her anxiety attacks. Now, she says she will only stop smoking during her pregnancy if tax dollars pay for her doctor’s help.
In April, Cunningham considered getting an abortion so she could appear on the reality show Big Brother, which also caused public outrage. She decided to keep the baby, however, under the mistaken belief that it would be a girl.
The unknown father, either a casual fling or a stranger she slept with while working as an escort, is unlikely to support her or the baby regardless of its sex.
Cunningham maintains that she is not the only expectant mother to feel upset about her baby’s sex, and she is just being honest. Nevertheless, she says she believes she will be happy once the baby arrives.
“My maternal instincts will kick in and I’ll love him as much as my other two boys.”
