CPS budget proposal means higher property taxes

Chicago’s property taxes are probably going up again next year, to help the Chicago Public School system close a $900 million hole in its budget.

The proposed increase would add another $34 a year to the tax bill on a $250,000 home.

The new school budget includes the biggest-ever hike in teacher salaries and pension benefits; there is money to hire more phys ed and art teachers, and money for the Safe Passage program.

The budget faces a CPS vote later this month.

It is absolutely insane what the teachers in the CPS system get…then the taxpayers have to pay for their retirement for the rest of their lives even if we don’t even have kids who go through the system. The whole thing is corrupt and part of the reason why Chicago will become the next Detroit.

They are asking for approx. $3 dollars a month for a $250000 home to cover the budget. That doesn’t sound unreasonable. The taxes are still lower than the suburbs anyways. I guess you don’t have to live in Chicago, you choose to. There are plenty of places to live throughout the US that have dirt cheap taxes.

Yes Jason there are a lot of better places to live where the city, then the county and then the state are not always raising taxes. Those $3.00 a month become a lot more plus aren’t You paying enough already? Chicagoans wherever You move please do not make it Du Page county. We love our peace and quiet and We have very high taxes. Yes taxes are very high so don’t come this way.
