Around the Chicago area, people are already celebrating the Fourth of July and the long holiday weekend.

Park Ridge residents headed to Main East High school to celebrate the park district's 100th anniversary and our nation's independence Thursday night.

But millions hit the road today too.

AAA motor club says this weekend marks the busiest 4th of July travel weekend since 2007. 2.2 million Illinois drivers headed out of town, even as gas prices climb.

Some left by air. Delays and cancellations can be blamed on Hurricane Arthur bearing down on North Carolina as the holiday fast approaches. At O’Hare and Midway, flyers can expect delays if you are headed to the southeast. Call your airline first before you fly.

But here in Chicago, the weather is ideal.  While the lake hovers at a cool 60 degrees, the beaches are full.
