Heat and high humidity fueled explosive thunderstorms across Iowa Sunday evening, some which delivered damaging winds, and hail as large as baseballs.
Monday, gusty southwest winds will transport the sultry air into Chicago, while an upper-level jet stream strengthens. This is typically a recipe for severe storm development. As a result, eastern Iowa and northern Illinois have been highlighted to be at risk for damaging winds and large hail.
Storms are forecast to develop rapidly late Monday, then sweep across the metro area Monday evening.
