A freight train struck a timber hanging from an overhead bridge in Hinsdale on Saturday morning, causing delays of up to 90 minutes for Metra riders on the BNSF line and some headaches for drivers in the area, officials said.

Inbound and outbound Metra trains were affected by the obstruction on the train tracks near Oak Street in Hinsdale, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.

Metra trains on the BNSF line were running normally again through Hinsdale about 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

The train was not damaged and no injuries were reported, BNSF spokesman Andy Williams said.
