Three firefighters were injured on the job in south suburban Harvey.

The fire gutted a mechanic’s shop, near 148TH and Loomis Tuesday night.

Workers say it started in a car inside the shop, but they couldn’t put it out. They had to leave as the flames engulfed the building, causing the roof to collapse.

Three firefighters had to go to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

One was released, and two are still being treated.

No other buildings caught fire.
