Body recovered from crashed glider in the Fox River

A man from Chicago was killed, and another person was injured, in an ultralight aircraft crash in the middle of the fast-moving Fox River in LaSalle County.

The plane took off from Sky Dive Chicago, which is about two miles from the scene of the crash. The plane went down around 8:30pm on Monday.

The pilot, Nicholas Peterson, was able to get free from the wreckage. He is being treated at a hospital and is expected to recover.

The passenger, 50 year-old Jeffrey Carpenter, was killed. His body was recovered Tuesday morning.
LaSalle County Sheriff Tom Templeton says the two-seat plane had engine trouble before going down.
