Police response to crowd celebrating Mexico’s win shuts down parts of LA

A crowd of fans celebrating Mexico’s World Cup win over Croatia shut down part of Los Angeles Monday.

KTLA reports between 160 and 200 fans began gathering shortly after the match ended just before 3 p.m. Police officer were out in force and soon faced off with fans.

By about 6 p.m., after police had issued an order to stay out of the roadway, officers mounted on horses but fans still moved through the streets, some waving Mexico’s flag, as the mounted officers pushed forward.

KTLA reports several people were taken into custody.
