Mayor Emanuel will ask the Chicago City Council this week to stiffen penalties for graffiti taggers.

Currently, the fine is $750; the new fine could be as high as $2,500; repeat offenders would get the highest fines.

The mayor has already put money in Chicago’s new budget for two new chemical graffiti removal trucks, two new blasting crews and an additional painting crew.

You know, has the mayor ever thought about designating areas/walls, etc. that are pro graffiti? Maybe if these kids had a place where they could spray/create in their neighborhood they would think twice about maiming random buildings? Am I naiive?
