Chilling 911 tapes released in deadly neighbor dispute

911 calls have been released in the deadly neighbor dispute involving an off-duty Chicago police officer.

A long-simmering feud exploded into violence that left an 86-year-old man dead and two women wounded in the city’s Gresham neighborhood.

Certain details in these calls have been redacted by police but the confrontation between the officer and his elderly neighbor escalates quickly.

The off-duty officer says he found his wife arguing with the elderly woman next door, who was throwing rocks and dirt at the younger woman and hitting her with a broom during the afternoon of April 25th.

Police say 86-year-old Joe Huff went into his house and came out with a gun. Police say he fired the gun wounding the officer’s wife. The officer then shot the Huff. Huff’s wife then attempted to pick up the shot gun and the officer, after warning her to step back, shot and wounded her as well.

The 911 recordings include shouting, screaming and gun shots. The officer can be heard warning Huff’s wife to step back from Huff’s gun.

But the officer says his elderly neighbor, Hazel Jones-Huff, picked up the shotgun anyway. So he shots her in the arm and leg.

Joe Huff died from his gunshot wounds. Both women suffered non life-threatening injuries. As the chaos begins to subside, the off-duty Chicago cop, who’s been on the phone with 911 through it all, stayed on the line and gives his breathless account of what happened.

91-year-old Hazel Jones-Huff, who was shot, was charged with misdemeanor battery and aggravated assault of a police officer.

The officer has not been charged.

Good Lord, this writer needs to learn basic grammar and story cohesiveness. A 10-year-old child can write better than him.
