Report: FAA understated impact of new O’Hare landing pattern

Changes make OHare very noisy neighbor for some

Some neighbors of O’Hare Airport have had a rude, and loud, awakening since the airport shifted its takeoff and landing patterns last October.

Now, the Sun-Times reports, federal aviation officials dramatically understated the number of planes when they held public hearings on the new landing pattern in 2005; and the feds changed their numbers online — in some cases, tripling or quadrupling them — months after the final hearing.

The FAA insists it was clear enough in its presentation to O’Hare’s neighbors.

Congressman Mike Quigley wants all new hearings about the noise problem.
