A teenaged girl who was jogging on the southwest side narrowly escaped after she was grabbed by a man. Now police are looking for the attacker and several other men who were with him.
Police say four or five young men traveling in dark blue sedan tried to kidnap the 15-year-old girl as she was jogging Tuesday night in the Gage Park neighborhood.
The brazenness of this attack is part of why it is so frightening. It didn’t happen on a quiet side street. It happened heavily-traveled California Avenue.
The teen was jogging southbound on California near 50th Street when she was approached by a dark blue 4-door vehicle with tinted rear windows. One of the men in the car jumped out and tried to pull the girl into the vehicle.
The girl reportedly screamed and broke free as the young men drove away.
Longtime residents tell WGN they wish police would beef up patrols in the neighborhood.
Chicago police are asking people to take safety precautions: Stay alert, don’t jog with ear buds unaware of your surroundings, don’t let children walk alone, and help kids identify safe havens in the community.
