Nearly 5,000 fans gathered in Grant Park Monday afternoon to watch Team USA defeat Ghana in the team’s first game of the World Cup
Ghana has been a thorn in the US team’s side having eliminated them in the last two World Cups. The Americans are in the hardest group in the whole tournament: Group G – dubbed the “Group of death.” Today shows they can survive it.
With only minutes left in the game, John Brooks came off the bench and scored – the first substitute to ever score for the U.S. in 30 World Cup games. His amazing goal clinched a US victory.
The crowd at Grant Park was electric and energized by a US team that looked like champions.
The United States faces Portugal on Sunday, while Ghana plays Germany on Saturday.
